Beijing 北京
Beijing is an ancient capital in northern China. Its long history goes back more than three thousand years. Today about twenty-one million people live in the city region. Guidebooks say that the pace of life in Beijing is very fast: people hurry between skyscrapers, ring roads fill with cars at rush hour, and meetings often start on time. Citizens are proud of their culture—the Temple of Heaven, the Forbidden City, and of course famous Beijing roast duck on a family dinner table. When we compare two cities, we use comparative adjectives such as faster, busier, or older to describe polite differences.
